How To Throw An Uppercut Punch

The uppercut is used in close-quarters fighting. It’s a power punch thrown from the waist upwards aimed at underneath the opponent’s chin or the solar plexus area of the body.

The forearm is on a vertical plane, and it is designed to split the guard.

The uppercut is almost useless against a fast, upright fighter who uses long lead jabs to your face. But it is a natural technique against someone who puts his head down and charges.

Most beginners throw the uppercut with only the shoulders. The power should be from the ground up. The knees should be bent before striking, and straighten as you throw the punch.

In this video, Alan La shows you 3 simple concepts to apply to maximise your uppercut technique, so that it’s efficient, fast and powerful.
